I have a marantz portable cassette recorder, one journo's in the 60/70's would use to do interviews on location. Expensive as well, but sometimes on sale for $50. McDSP Futzbox uses impulse responses from car stereos, toy speakers, walkie talkies, and a bunch of other crappy lo-fi sources. Goes on sale occasionally, watch out on black friday. Not a compressor but has distortion which will compress the signal. XLN Audio RC-20 Retro Color has a ton of flexibility with combining lo-fi styles.
